Jabalpur is located in the Mahakoshal region in the geographic center of India. Jabalpur is one of the largest cities of Madhya Pradesh and considered to be the political and military hub of this region. The numerous gorges in the neighboring rocks have been taken advantage of to surround the city with a series of lakes, which, shaded by trees and bordered by crags, add much greenery to the suburbs.
 
The city itself dates from the nineteenth century, and is laid out in wide and regular streets. It has a beautiful collection of Marble Rocks called Bhedaghat surrounding the holy Narmada River, namesake of the Narmada Jacksons Hotel. Many visitors every year come to visit Jabalpur because of this major attraction.
Jabalpur has a big Defence and Military Center - Headquarters of the MPBO Area, the headquarters of West Central Railway Zone, the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board, and the Madhya Pradesh High Courts. It is also known for housing spiritual leaders like Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of Transcendental Meditation and Bhagwan Rajneesh, not to mention plenty of famous celebrities such as Jaya Bachchan, Prem Nath, Arjun Rampal, Aadesh Shrivastava, and many others.

Bajnamath Mandir

Bajnamath is located about 15 km from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The place famous for the 15th century medieval structures constructed by Sangram Shah - one of the most well known Gond Kings. It is a centre of tantric sects.

Balancing Rock

This rock, located very close to Madan Mahal Fort, was formed as a result of volcanic eruption in Jabalpur. This beautiful oval inverted-dome shaped rock, delicately balances on another rock, through a nexus of less that an inch! More interesting is the fact that this rock has survived an earthquake in Jabalpur of 6.5 magnitudes on Richter’s Scale.


Bargi Dam

Bargi Dam near Bijora village, was constructed across River Narmada, for harvesting water for irrigation of agricultural lands and energy production through a hydro-electric power station. Narmada is the largest flowing river in Madhya Pradesh covering a distance of about 1972 km and opens into the mouth of Arabian Sea in the west. Bargi Dam is the first of the 39 dams planned to be built across the Narmada River, whose construction continued from 1974 to 1999.
A 75 km long lake is formed across Jabalpur, Mandla and Seoni when the 69m high dam is filled to its fullest capacity.

Sangram Sagar Lake

The famous Gond King, Sangram Shah built these structures during the medieval period of 1489-1549. The Sangram Sagar is located at a distance of 15 Km from Jabalpur. A number of aquatic creatures find home in the Sangram Sagar Lake. Birds from central parts of western Asia like, pin-tailed ducks, coots and red-perched pochards are seen in this lake.

Marble Rocks  Bhedaghat

Bhedaghat Marble rocks are a spot of ‘absolute scenic beauty’. These smooth marble rocks with metallic green and black shades are a result of continuously gushing Narmada and volcanic eruptions in Bhedaghat. These 199-meter tall cliff-forming marble rocks on both sides of Narmada River, gleam throughout moon lit nights giving them a heavenly appearance. For those who keep track of Bollywood, the song Raat ka Nasha Abhi from film Asoka, was shot here. Bhedaghat district is 29 km away from Jabalpur. These famous marble rocks are also visible from Dhaundhar falls, which are 1 km away from the rocks. Trinkets made of marble and soapstone’s are available here.

Rani Durgavati Memorial and Museum

Rani Durgavati museum, dedicated to the Gond Queen, Rani Durgavati was constructed in 1964. It is a collection of sculptures and antiques from the 19th century. An idol of Goddess Saraswati (supporter of music, art and education) is present here. Amongst the other idols are, an idol obtained from Doni, of Goddess Durga (giver of strength or shakti) and a yogini with a lion at her feet.
An interesting sand stone depiction of a gambling game termed Chauser is seen here. This sculpture was procured from Tripuri, where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are seen playing the game, accompanied by several other gods like Sarawati, Brahma and Ganesha, on mount Kailasha, amidst the clouds. The delight of the whole scene becomes obvious in the sculpture, with Parvati in the winning side. The museum has some artifacts and pictures of Mahatma Gandhi.

Madan Mahal Fort

Madan Mahal Fort was constructed by King Madan Shah, the tenth Gond King and the son of Rani Durgavati, in the years 1119-1116. It is now a property of ASI.

The 999 year old fort is situated at a height of 599 meters, and served as a palace and a panorama for anticipating enemy attacks. A view of the entire city of Jabalpur can be obtained from this height. It has an attractive entrance made of granite leading to the main fort. The architecturally designed rooms and well-planned construction of this fort talk about majesty of the Gond Dynasty.
